Why elearning?
A number of clients or potential clients have asked us for a web writing elearning course. They have given a wide-range of reasons:
- staff are located too far away from our public course locations
- an inhouse course might not be cost effective

So having identified the various needs, we then designed a course that would match most people’s needs. This proved to be a major, time-consuming but absorbing project. As we set the standards in tutor-delivered web writing training we were not going to settle for second best with our e-learning product.
A cost effective way to get up to speed with web writing
The priority aim was identified as getting staff up-to-speed with web writing in the shortest practical time but balanced with achieving a good standard.
The weakness of many elearning courses is that they take too long and people get bored and don’t finish them. So we omitted issues that won’t concern most web writers. We also made sure that the learner is kept actively occupied, visually distracted and, hopefully, occasionally amused.
The practicals are in themselves engaging, and mirror typical content we see on the web today.
Who it’s for
This course has been designed for almost anyone wanting to improve the wording on their websites or intranets. No technical knowledge or accomplished writing ability is assumed. But a basic ability in English writing and spelling is needed.
Professional communicators and technical web staff will also benefit, as the course covers some new ground and very recent research.
